UPDATE: Rescued and Adopted!!!
Mona is a 3-year-old brown female pit bull who was
surrendered to the Baldwin Park shelter by her family on June
16th because they were moving. This 30-35 pound beauty is
incredibly sweet and affectionate; her two favorite activities are
giving kisses and getting belly rubs! Mona is good with other
dogs, good on a leash, and has a low to medium energy level.
She was clearly neglected as she is emaciated and has a small
abscess on the side of her torso that appears to be healing. Mona
is an absolute gem!
Here are some testimonials:
I met this girl at the adoption on Sunday – she was amazing. SO gentle and loving. Was a lap dog the entire time – just wanted to hang out and be near the people who were loving her. Calm energy – very old soul – special girl.
From volunteer Sherry Brewer:
I met Mona at the mobile adoption today and from the moment I saw her she drew me in. I observed as she sat for a grooming and allowed another volunteer to dig in her ears to clean the filth out. When, at the end of the day, I was told she is scheduled to be put down Tuesday, I lost control, and now have that “ugly cry” look. Mona may be a little testy with some dogs, but that could be related to her having given birth not too long ago and missing her pups. With people, she is gentle and very loving, and I would venture to say that having Mona around could be very therapeutic. I swear, her soulful eyes will draw you in. Thank you, Margo’s Bark, for your generous offer. Hopefully, someone will take you up on it and Mona’s eyes and spirit will continue to shine.
From Ranelle Anorga
Ok guys – Margo’s bark has pledged $300 for her rescue. We can easily raise a few hundred more! I know that Lenora fell in love with her soulfulness at the shelter yesterday – as we all did as well today at the AAA adoption. We have a few days to get her out. Thanks,

POLITE BUT PERTURBED, HENRY REQUESTS PERMISSION TO LEAVE

HENRY WAITS FOR YOU BY THE DOOR
HENRY IS READY FOR A CHANGE. A COMFY BED IN YOUR HOME SOUNDS GOOD TO HIM.

Henry (A1112126, 4 year old, already neutered, on alert since May 9th as a result of the poor condition his owner kept him in, needs out at once) has been abandoned. Ignored, kept outside, Henry seems aloof at first — but when we put him back in his ISO cage, he cried, begging us not to turn our backs on him again as his owner must have done every time he shut the door with Henry looking up at him. Absolutely adorable, this little guy deserves another chance at finding love. Henry politely requests that you set up his salon appointment next week, any day would be fine. But first, visit or call the South L.A. shelter to adopt / rescue him. (213) 485-0117 or -0119. And please let us know that he is safe. Bouvier (A1113456, only 3 months old, on alert since May 9th — out of time!!!!!) brightens up the day for medical staff at South L.A. Even though she’s wearing her bright blue leg cast (check with medical staff re details on fracture and surgery — this needs to be addressed before rescue!!!!!), she is always happy. If you can help Bouvier, please call the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119. And kindly let us know as well — if you wish to donate to her surgery, we can keep track of pledges, or if you take her home, we can spread the good news. Dear All,
This has been a terrible year for a lot of people and even worse for the dogs. These four puppies are on the kill list at Kern County and will die this week before they have ever known what it is to be loved. We are rescuing two others and can’t stand the thought that these faces will be left behind. They are babies, some just 8 weeks old. They need fosters desperately. So, please forward this to anyone you think might be able to help. We have transport to LA for Wednesday but cannot bring them if they don’t have a place to go. If you or anyone you know can foster of help in any way please contact Sheilah at muttmatchla@aol.com.
It takes a village….please forward, cross-post, whatever it takes to save these young lives.

AND ALL YOU NEED IS A PAIR OF PLASTIC GLOVES. AND LOVE.

Sad Skittles (A1107639, 3 year old, 15-pound hunk of yummy chi, whose time is up on Friday 4/22) has ringworm. She’s a favorite of the medical staff who treat her every day. And if they have fallen in love with this particular dog, she’s got to be a sweetheart. We had her out so briefly, watched her prance on the leash down the hallway, maneuvered her pose just so — in order to photo the scabs on her face and ears. Why should sad Skittles die — from a fungus? If you can make her happy again — and give her the gift of life, please call the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119. Thanks so much for caring about these ISO dogs who don’t get their chance in the kennels. Andrea & Miindy ivegonetothedogs@gmail.com (323) 363-4909.

Dear volunteers, we are in need of fosters for the following three dogs. Please reply if you can help.
(1) Red:. Red is great with people (including kids) and is generally good with other dogs (of all sizes). Her issues are that she gets jealous and reactive if another dog is getting attention and she’s not but she responds extremely well to correction. She also has separation anxiety and cries when left alone but as is common with most dogs with this problem, Red is getting better as she gets more comfortable with the fact that she is not going to be abandoned (like she was when her owners dumped her at the shelter). Click on the link for additional details and a video.
(2) Bernie:. Bernie has been in a long term foster home for the last 10 months. He’s a senior boy that wants nothing more than to have a comfortable bed and not deal with other young dogs getting in his face. He just needs someone who can take him for short walks, feed him and let him relax. He can bark when other dogs crowd his space.
(3) Bruce: . Bruce is one of the best staffie mixes we have come across. He is incredibly sweet and loving. He is currently in a foster home with many other dogs and gets along well with everyone. He would really benefit from being in a household with an experienced dog owner who will take him for walks, continue to socialize him in every situation and give him all the attention he deserves. Everyone LOVES sweet Bruce.
Please let me know if you can help foster any of these dogs and we can discuss the specifics in greater detail.
Thank you
Phillip

4-POUND POCO : DTI (DOG-TURN-IN)
REASON GIVEN : “I NEEDED A FRIEND — FAST.”

DODGING TRAFFIC, ESCAPING FROM THOSE WHO WERE TRYING TO CAPTURE HIM, POCO RAN TOWARDS THE ANNEX AND INTO THE ARMS OF RVT KARLEE. IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
Poor little Poco (A1103676, 5 years old and only 4 pounds!!!) arrived at the shelter on March 30th. No limo, no cab — on his own 3 1/2 feet. You see — Poco has a weak back leg, a possible luxating patella that may require surgery, and that causes him to nearly flop over at times while he is walking. He is truly tipsy, make no mistake about it. In addition to that, Poco’s penis points out — always. It does not recede, it proceeds. This little guy needs a medical evaluation — and a really good friend to take him to the vet so he doesn’t have to use his 3 1/2 legs. Such a sweet little guy, so chocolately and yummy. If you can help Poco the DTI, please call the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119. Kindly let us know that he is safe. Many thanks, Andrea & Mindy ivegonetothedogs@gmail.com (323) 363-4909

PLEASE CROSS-POST!!
Maple is a sweet and loving 5-yr-old staffie who was bred and dumped at the East Valley shelter after suffering a traumatic, high-impact injury to her hind leg, shattering her femur into pieces. Fortunately, we can still save Maple’s leg by surgically inserting a plate that will allow the bones to heal properly. However, the surgery will cost $2000, and we hope that you will contribute whatever amount you can to help us cover the cost. To donate online, please go to http://maplesfunds.chipin.com/maples-med or to www.animaladvocatesalliance.org.
Maple’s touching video, created by Connor Flynn and Cathleen Weinrich,
THANK YOU on behalf of Maple and everyone who came together to rescue this precious soul!

12 PUPPIES LATER, MOMMA TASHA FACES DEATH

SHE PROTECTED THEM, SHE NURSED THEM. SHE’S SO LONELY WITHOUT THEM.
NEVER KNOWN A TOY. NEVER KNOWN KINDNESS.

BUT SHE CAN LEARN!!!!!!! LOOK AT THIS SILLY SMILE.
We’ve visited with momma Tasha (A1085553, 3 years old, came in to the shelter on January 8th with 12 puppies, 3 died since that time, ON ALERT AND HAS PERHAPS THROUGH THIS WEEKEND ONLY!!!) a few times — enough to see a transformation. Always hungry after feeding her big brood, she would gobble the soft food and treats that we brought her. Thinking of her puppies she would bark at the cage door. But, yesterday, alone, left behind after all the little ones were transferred, she was pleading rather than barking. She licked the food from our fingers. She gently nibbled the chicken that we held out for her. And she wagged her tail!!!!!!!! Yes, this girl who has no hope now sees us as her friends and welcomed the attention, the petting — something she had never known before.
I have a soft spot for the momma dogs and the shelter has given her a little extra time because the RVT’s say she is a “nice dog. She let us treat her babies (they were sick) and was fine with that.”) But, Tasha is on alert and has only a couple of days. If you can help her — and she really needs a foster to shower her with love — call the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119. And please let us know. We are so worried — yet hopeful that this girl can finally have some happiness and keep that smile on her face always. Many thanks, Andrea & Mindy ivegonetothedogs@gmail.com (323) 363-4909
